Kids BJJ in Islington: Confidence Without the Chaos

Children training BJJ

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the martial art that lets a smaller person control a bigger one using leverage and technique, not strength or striking. There is no punching or kicking, so it never looks or feels violent, which is exactly why it suits children so well. Your child learns to stay calm under pressure, solve problems with their body, and hold their own without ever throwing a punch.

We are a small, friendly club in Finsbury (EC1), easy to reach from Old Street, Angel, Barbican and Farringdon. Classes are deliberately small, so every child is actually seen.

Our kids classes restart for the new term on Monday 7 September. Places are limited, so register your interest now to secure your child’s place. When term starts, the first class is a free trial, no commitment (gym kit or joggers and a t-shirt, water, no experience needed).

What a kids class looks like

Fun first, then fundamentals. We keep classes small and games-based, so children build real skills and physical confidence without drilling like little adults. We focus on the techniques and positions that genuinely work, taught in a way that keeps them engaged.

For the full picture of how we teach children, including our approach and progression, see our kids jiu jitsu programme and, for our youngest, jiu jitsu for minis (ages 4+).

Questions parents ask us

What age can my child start? Minis take ages 4 (at coaches discretion) and up; Juniors are for ages 7 and up.

My child has never done a martial art. Will they cope? Yes. Juniors is all-levels and beginners start every term. Nobody is expected to arrive knowing anything.

Is it safe? Is it fighting? BJJ has no striking. It is about control and technique, taught in a safe, supervised, ego-free room. It is one of the gentler martial arts to start.

What should they wear? A BJJ gi if you have one, otherwise joggers or leggings and a t-shirt or rashguard. Bring water.

How do we start? Register your interest on WhatsApp and we will save your child a place for the new term.
